Today we talked about the election and how important it is to vote. We set up our own polling station and ballot box to vote for where we wanted to release the butterflies. Once we had all marked an 'x' in the box we folded our voting paper and popped it in the box. We had to wait for all the votes to be counted it was very exciting and we voted to release the butterflies in the playground, it was very close! Here are some photos...
What a fantastic trip we had today, great weather, cute animals and lots of fun! Here are a few pictures from our day.
We have been learning about people who help us, today we talked about how lollipop people help us and we made the signs they hold.
In PE we were learning to give instructions and help a blindfolded member of our team across the hall.
This week we having been learning about growing. On Monday we began to weed our garden and transfer our flowers to the tyres in our outside area so we can plant some vegetable seeds. We also planted some cress and have been very excited to see how quickly it has grown this week. In Literacy we have written sentences about how we planted the cress, we have worked very hard at using sounds mats and remembering to use finger spaces to separate our words.
In Maths we have been using balance buckets and spring scales to weigh different objects using the words heavy and light, some children have been able to order a number of objects heaviest to lightest.
We have also enjoyed making mini supertatoes, painting and labelling flowers, looking at seeds and books and using magnifying glasses to carefully look at each part of a plant. In PE we have been practising our circus skills with balls, lots of fun!
Today was world book day, we shared the story Mr Magnolia by Quentin Blake, the book was a rhyming story all about how Mr Magnolia had one boot. We enjoyed lots of activities linked to Mr Magnolia in our classroo, Year 1 and outside. We had a huge dinosaur to paint, instruments to play, books about ponds to look at animal pictures to colour, medals to make and boots to design for Mr Magnolia, we had a lovely morning.
After play we had PE with Mr Carpanini, he talked to us about challenging ourselves to learn. We practised tennis skills on our own and in partners, we really stretched ourselves.
In the afternoon we had a great time watching 'jump to it' we really liked seeing all the different book characaters come to life!
This week we have been recapping our phase 3 sounds, in particular we need to practise 'ur' 'ow and 'oi' and will carry on recapping for this half term.
In Literacy we finished writing up our superhero speech bubbles and today we helped to write a set of instructions for making pancakes. We then used our fantastic reading skills to work though each instruction to make tasty pancakes.
Today we've had lots of fun helping to make batter and watch Miss Hardy flip a pancake, we enjoyed our pancakes with sugar and lemon and talked about how they celebrate pancakes in other countries. After we had eaten the pancakes we wrote on post its what we thought of the taste.
In Maths we are showing how we can count sounds and actions not just objects, we played a game where we had to listen very carefully to how many times an instrument was struck and then say the number we thought. We have also been estimating the number of objects we see using the words "more or fewer than" we are getting very good at estimating.
In the classroom we have enjoyed playing musical instruments, drawing our perfect pancake and making racetracks for our mobilo cars.
At the end of this week we have been practising saying our pairs of numbers to ten. We are getting quick at knowing to numbers that make 10, we have shown our number facts using bricks to build towers and even shared 10 biscuits between two plates. We enjoy being active in Maths.
In Literacy we have been learning the trigraphs 'ear' and 'air' we know three letters that make one sound is a trigraph, Geraldine the Giraffe told us. We have been using our knowledge of letters and sounds to write superhero speech bubbles. We are trying hard to write sentences Starting with a capital letter, separating each word with a finger space, sitting our letters on the line and finishing our sentence with a full stop.
In the classroom we have been enjoying making superohero masks, designing superheroes, painting, using construction to develop our ideas, drawing maps and acting out stories.
This week we have been sharing what we did in the holidays, we made models, painted pictures, wrote books and used the computer to share all the fun things we did. We have also started our new story 'supertato' by Sue Hendra. We love supertato and have been busy making models of him and making our own super veg.
In Maths we are learning about different ways of making 10, we are showing we know two numbers that add together to make ten in our painting, writing and by using different Maths equipment.
